Sound Healing Gong Bath and Gong Meditation
What is a gong and how does it help you?
The gong is an ancient and sacred instrument of healing and transformation dating back about 5000 years, from the early Bronze Age. Master philosopher Dane Rydhyar has referred to the gong as being “a musical engine releasing cosmic power”. The Yogis of the East have held the gong in reverence as a highly transpersonal guru and considered it above a human Sat Guru.
Because the gong covers the full spectrum of sound, you feel the vibration of the sound curtain envelop and wash over and through you, allowing you to deeply relax.
It was observed that the human mind has no power to resist the all-encompassing sound of the gong, and the results are a higher state of vibration and elevated consciousness. As we allow ourselves to be embraced by the sound wave of the gong, we let go of any fears and negative thoughts, of our incessant need to control and to understand. We encourage any of the body’s vibrations, patterns and rhythms that may have shifted, to achieve balance and harmony, as well as release any stuck energy. The listener will be moved away from the sensory world and physical awareness, perhaps bringing him/her closer to a state of Shunya (Neutrality).
The fifth sutra of the Aquarian Age tells us to: “Vibrate the cosmos and the cosmos shall clear the path”. On a spiritual level this helps remove obstacles and aids to elevate us so that we may, in turn, become a forklift, and elevate others.
“The gong is the first and last instrument for the human mind. There is only one thing that can supersede and command the human mind - the sound of the gong. It is the first sound in the universe, the sound that created this universe. It is the basic creative sound. To the mind, the sound of the gong is like a mother and father that gave it birth. The mind has no power to resist a gong that is well played.” Yogi Bhajan
From Gongmaster Don Conreaux: “Whenever any gong is struck with a mallet, its percussive “ONGONGONGONG” sound melts into the AUM/OM of suspended full tones, overlaying each other, creating what seems to be a solid, thick mass of all pervading tone. Bathing in this tone field, the experience is similar to total immersion under water… Yes, the gong bath is more than just an alternative to a nap. It produces its OM Super Sound to support us holistically…
The mental effects of the gong bath are complex and deep. Perhaps even more so than silent meditation or natural sleep because it involves a primordial tone resonance. There is nothing more primal than the AUM/OM of Universe’s Voice.

Various instruments will be played before, during or after the gong, that will deepen your experience and further relax your body and mind: Tibetan Bowls, Tinshaw, steel tongue drum, Koshi, chimes, drum and rattles. Two gongs will be played during the session, lulling you to a state of deep calm and release.
