The Winter Collection - “Nourish”
The winter season in the Northeast can be quite long, damp, windy and cold, with wide temperature swings from day to day or week to week. It’s the beginning of what in Ayurveda we know as the Kapha season, which can make us congested, increase inflammation and dampen our spirits. We go from the hectic holiday season, of too much everything, where there seems to be a constant assault on all our senses, to the low temperatures of January, bringing us down. It’s a wild swing that can have a destabilizing effect both physiologically, psychologically and emotionally.
What we need now is to revive our sense of self-care and re-establish a sense of constancy in our lives, to feel grounded but uplifted. We need to keep looking forward, with positive mindsets, to embrace community and balance. We need to nourish and protect, reach out and uplift. This is the spirit of the winter collection - and the essential oils below are just a few that I use to reflect the intention to nourish us, body and soul.
*Products will be customized following the aromatherapy consultation session and will support your own intention.
Essential oils: Blood orange (Citrus sinensis), German chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini), Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Sandalwood (Santalum album), Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), Frankincense (Boswellia serrata),Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis).
The Fall Collection - “Balance”
We are in the midst of quite a lot of change and are just now starting to get some relief from the hot summer sun and humidity. Skin may be parched, inflamed, looking to recover from the effects of the sun, maybe a bit on the oily side. Spending time outdoors, vacationing, maybe swimming in the ocean or hiking in the woods, we have soaked up the sun (and have plenty of vitamin D provisions). We’ve kept busy and in high spirits.
As we transition to the fall season, our intention is to become more grounded and focused. As the weather becomes cooler and drier and the wind picks up, this is a time to embrace the many changes, shift focus inwards, and set up routine and structure. We look for ways to refocus our energy, to protect our skin and change our nutrition to integrate wholesome foods and supplements to help boost our immune system.
Our skin regimen for the season include bright and uplifting scents such as lemon, calming and soothing (Roman chamomile), and other ingredients to support our intention to cleanse and nourish our skin and to enhance our breathing space and provide much needed grounding and stability emotionally.
This was created specifically to address skin care issues that may arise during the fall season, when our skin transitions from the hot and humid (or dry) air in the summer to the windy, cooler and damp of the fall season. Our skin needs change, and our regimen will start including more nourishing and moisturizing oils that may have been too heavy to wear during the summer months. Similarly, at an emotional level, we look to become more grounded and focused, more willing to sync in with the shift in seasons and maybe even more inclined to accept change, while keeping a sense of lightness and providing a boost.
Essential Oils: Lemon (Citrus limon), Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides), Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana), Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis).
