What is meditation?
“If you can breathe, you can meditate.” (Sharon Salzberg, The Art of Happiness)
Meditation is focusing the attention on one thing in order to be more aware and more mindful. It’s about letting go of the expectation of what should happen or what we should be experiencing and simply paying attention. In other words, be here now!
Many people think that meditation is sitting down and doing (or trying to) do nothing. Quite the opposite! Meditation is actually training your brain, an active form of brain training.
Meditation is a simple practice, but it’s not easy. It requires commitment, a curious and open mind and the desire to learn new things. Meditation will invariably bring a deeper understanding of our nature, a journey into the self and it will allow you the opportunity to meet someone that you may have never met before: you!
Why practice meditation?
The benefits of meditation have been widely reported and many are looking to meditation to combat stress and live a simpler life, more connected to others and to their surroundings. Many different scientific studies have found that meditation has profound effects on the brain and on our health and wellbeing.
